Would like to see a state income tax cut? A bill has been introduced to do that.

Republican state Representative Kathy Schmaltz of Jackson has introduced a bill saying people need a break since they’re trying to afford everything.

I’ve introduced a bill to cut income taxes for all Michigan residents and small businesses,” Schmaltz said. “It would cut the income tax from 4.25% to 4.05% effective January this year.”

Schmaltz says she’d like to see the tax cut remain permanently if state revenues are high. She says in 2023, rates were lowered to 4.05%, but Democrats later decided the cut would only last one year.
