K9 Quillen of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is receiving a new bullet and stab protective vest.

Thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Quillen will now have lifesaving body armor that is custom-made, fitted, and National Institute of Justice Certified. The organization has provided over 5,900 vests to police agencies across the country.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office says Quillen’s vest will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Mijo and Maya.”

The vest, which costs $1800, weighs an average of 4 to 5 pounds and comes with a five-year warranty.
