An update on the incident that occurred following the Benton Harbor-Buchanan basketball game on February 26.

After the completion of the Dowagiac Police Department investigation, the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office have indicated that possible charges are now being sought against the individuals involved.

Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz tells us that they have received the police reports and are taking the next steps in the process.

“Since receiving those on Thursday, we’ve been reviewing them,” Fitz says. “We’ve had a meeting with law enforcement to discuss some follow-up, which is occurring, and we expect that this review will continue this week. The decision be made in the near future as to what charges, if any, will be brought from this incident.”

Fitz mentioned that several individuals are under review for possible charges, including one minor. The Prosecutor’s Office will be working diligently on the case over the next week, with any potential charges expected to be announced afterward.

After the conclusion of the Benton Harbor-Buchanan district semi-final game, several objects were thrown toward a game official, including a basketball.
