There’s yet more work coming to I-94 in Berrien County.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells us MDOT is going to repave the highway between Coloma and Watervliet starting Monday.

“We’re currently planning on a two-year project to repave I-94 between roughly Coloma and Watervliet, as well as to repair the Hennessey Road bridge over I-94 and the Friday Road interchange,” Schirripa said. “So, a lot of work going on in kind of a short distance.”

Schirripa says they’ll work on the westbound side of the highway this year, with two lanes remaining open during the work. There may be some nighttime double lane closures, though. MDOT will repave the eastbound side of the road next year.

Schirripa says this is a $31.7 million project.

We’re looking at 80,000 vehicles a day on I-94. That’s pretty significant. So we want to make sure we’re putting the right investment in.”

The project will include drainage repairs, culvert replacements, guardrail upgrades, cable barrier replacements, new signs, and new pavement markings.

he work starts Monday, March 17 and will continue throughout the construction season.
