The Salvation Army in Niles has announced the opening of its new facility to the community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After a year of hard work, Salvation Army’s Major Nic Montgomery tells us that the new building, located at 1707 Miller Drive, is better equipped and resourced to serve the residents of Southeast Berrien and Cass Counties in need.

“This new space is flexible,” Montgomery says. “It is more space than what we have right now. It really opens up numerous opportunities for us to serve with greater efficiency, but also to expand on some programs and services that are going to be needed in our community.”

The new building features a commercial kitchen for hot lunch programs, a client-choice food pantry, a dining room for meals, a community vegetable garden, a chapel for prayer and worship, and more. With this additional space, the organization can now offer a wider range of programs and services.

“We also have opportunities for leadership training for youth with archery program that teaches leadership training through that program,” Montgomery says.

Since February, the Salvation Army in Niles has already seen a 300% increase in its assistance to those in need within the community.
