The new Silver Beach playground is coming along quickly.

Berrien County Parks Director Jill Adams addressed the Berrien County Board of Commissioners Thursday to say the equipment is all here and is mostly installed. The last thing they’ve got to do is install the accessible surfacing, which can be done as soon as the weather’s appropriate.

Adams showed the progress to commissioners.

These pictures were taken yesterday afternoon, and more progress is happening this morning,” Adams said. “So if you have a chance, please go down and check it out, and you’ll see even more things completed.”

Adams said the new playground has a hard surface walkway going around the play area, safety surfacing, a zip line, a small structure for little kids, a larger structure for bigger kids, a surfboard, and a swing set. She said it’s closer to being finished every day.

It’s happening. We’re very excited to see that.”

Adams is expecting the playground to be finished by the end of April so it can reopen to the public by Memorial Day.

Also Thursday, Adams was handed an award from the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber for the $1.25 million playground project, which received the chamber’s new Placemaking award this year.
