The Michigan State University Extension program is offering a series of beekeeping webinars this year.
MSU Extension educator Ana Heck tells us they’ll have Beekeeping Office Hour Webinars each month starting in April and running through September. So, who are the sessions for?
“Office Hour webinars are intended for people who are beekeepers, but they’re also open to anyone who’s interested in learning more,” Heck said. “We often recommend that people who are thinking about getting started with beekeeping take at least a year to learn about beekeeping before they get started.”
So, Heck says the webinars are a good way for someone thinking about taking up the hobby to learn more. The sessions will vary on subject matter, depending on the time of year, but there will be some common topics.
“Normally we cover seasonal beekeeping management. So, what we’re doing with our colonies this time of year, we talk about making sure that colonies have the right amount of space in their hives to grow, or store incoming nectar, we talk about honeybee colony health issues.”
Heck says beekeeping is common in Michigan with about 30 local beekeeping clubs around the state, including the Berrien/Cass Beekeepers Club. Some people do it for the honey, while others are just fascinated by bees.
The webinars are all free. You can learn more below.
