Widespread reports of power outages and storm damage across Southwest Michigan after Sunday’s severe thunderstorms and the winds that came along with them.

UPDATED at 9:10am ET: As of 9:00 AM Monday morning, Indiana Michigan Power was reporting 46,878 customers without power across their service area. The largest outages are in I&M’s Indiana territory near Elkhart but thousands are also without power in Niles, Buchanan, Berrien Springs, Benton Harbor, Paw Paw, Mattawan, Three Rivers, and surrounding areas.

St. Julien Winery in Paw Paw had part of their roof blown off — emergency crews responded and no injuries were reported. In Kalamazoo County, three people were killed and three more injured when a tree hit a car in Climax Township. In Muskegon County, high winds blew the roof off of an elementary school in the Fruitport School District.

There were also reports of a potential tornado in Newaygo County at around 6 pm. The National Weather Service is expected to send crews out today to review the storm damage and make a determination about whether it was caused by tornadoes.

A number of trees were reported down throughout the area and public safety officials are urging caution to watch out for downed limbs and fallen power lines.
