The price of a Mega Millions ticket has gone up.

The rollout of the updated game began with Tuesday’s drawing. The ticket now costs $5 and includes the multiplier.

Some players might be apprehensive to buy a more expensive ticket, but Jake Harris with the Michigan Lottery says the incentive will be higher payouts.

“One thing that we took into account, and all of us Mega Million states took into account when evaluating this game change, was that players really do like the large jackpots,” Harris said. “So when we’re talking about jackpots that grow to hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars, that makes players take notice and they want to win those prizes.”

The lowest prize a player could win will be $10.
