Michigan 59, Wisconsin 53 – Donaldson helps Michigan rally late again to beat Wisconsin 59-53 for Big Ten title
Tre Donaldson and Vladislav Goldin each scored 11 points and No. 22 Michigan closed the Big Ten Tournament championship game on an 11-2 run to beat No. 18 Wisconsin 59-53. The Wolverines won their first title since 2018 and did it in coach Dusty May’s first season. Goldin was named the tourney’s Most Outstanding Player. Donaldson, delivered his second clutch play in two days, this time making the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:54 left to send Michigan past Wisconsin for the Big Ten Tournament. John Blackwell scored 18 points for the Badgers, who have not won the tourney crown since 2015.  The Wolverines (25-9) arrived in Indianapolis trying to snap a three-game losing streak that cost them the regular season title and winning the school’s first tourney title since winning it back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.

NCAAMBB – Auburn is the No. 1 seed overall seed and is headed to the South Region
The Tigers spent eight weeks at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 before losing three of its past four games, including an SEC tourney semifinal to Tennessee. They will play Alabama State or Saint Francis in the first round on Thursday. The Tigers were joined in the region by No. 2 seed Michigan State, third-seeded Iowa State and No. 4 seed Texas A&M, which beat Auburn earlier in the season. The Aggies will open against No. 13 seed Yale, which beat Auburn as the same seed in the first round of last year’s tournament.  Michigan State will be making its 27th straight NCAA Tournament trip, the longest active streak of any team in the country. The Spartans will open against America East champion Bryant.  The biggest surprise in the South may have been the No. 5 seed given to in-state rival Michigan, which beat the Badgers for the Big Ten title on Sunday. Instead, the Wolverines will face a potential NCAA darling in the first round in UC San Diego, which was eligible for the first time after spending a four-year period transitioning from the Division II level.

NCAAMBB – Beware the 12 seed: Michigan, Memphis among the 5’s trying to avoid curse
Michigan probably thought it deserved a better seed than fifth for the NCAA Tournament. And you can bet the Big Ten tourney champs hoped for an easier first-round foe than UC San Diego, which romped to 30 wins and the Big West title. It’s one of four intriguing 5-12 matchups in the NCAA bracket this year. American Athletic champ Memphis got a 5 seed and will play Mountain West champion Colorado State. Oregon opens against Liberty and Clemson faces McNeese in the other 5-12 matchups. Fifty-five times the No. 12 seed has won since the 1985 tournament expansion.

NCAAMBB – Left out: Indiana, Boise State, West Virginia, Ohio State and more
Indiana has played its final game with retiring coach Mike Woodson after being left out of the NCAA Tournament. The 19-13 Hoosiers have no plans to play elsewhere this season being one of the first four teams left out of the 68-team NCAA field revealed Sunday. The others are 24-win Boise State, West Virginia and fellow Big Ten team Ohio State. After Indiana won five of its last seven games in the regular season before losing to Oregon in the Big Ten tournament. Boise lost in the Mountain West tournament championship game. West Virginia and Indiana both had six Quad I wins.

NCAAWBB –UCLA, South Carolina, USC, Texas are #1 seeds in women’s NCAA Tournament
UCLA is the top overall seed in the women’s NCAA Tournament. The Bruins were joined by South Carolina, Southern California and Texas as No. 1 seeds that the NCAA revealed Sunday night. It’s the first time in school history that the Bruins are the top team in the tournament. They had two losses on the season, both of which came to the Trojans.

NCAAWBB – Notre Dame women get a surprising seed
Notre Dame lost three of its last five games, dropping from a potential top seed to a third seed.
The Fighting Irish will play 14th-seeded Stephen F. Austin in the opening round. They will host the first and second rounds before potentially traveling to Birmingham, Alabama, for Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games. The Irish are 26-5 this season and earned a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title.

The Minnesota Frost and New York Sirens played in front of 14,288 fans Sunday night, setting an attendance record for a professional women’s hockey game in the United States. The Professional Women’s Hockey League game broke the mark as part of its Takeover Tour of potential expansion venues at Little Caesars Arena, a year after 13,736 fans watched women on the same sheet of ice at the home of the Detroit Red Wings. Denver drew 14,018 fans to set the previous U.S. record two months ago in another neutral-site game featuring the Frost and the Montreal Victoire.  The world attendance record for a women’s hockey was set nearly a year ago when 21,105 people were in the stands for a PWHL game between Montreal and Toronto in the NHL Canadiens’ arena.

MLB – Dodgers star Mookie Betts won’t play in Tokyo because of illness
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts will not play in the two-game Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs because of an illness that’s lingered for the past week. Manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Betts is starting to feel better but has lost nearly 15 pounds and is still trying to get rehydrated and gain strength. Roberts added that the eight-time All-Star might fly back to the United States before the team in an effort to rest and prepare for the domestic opener on March 27. Roberts said Miguel Rojas will start at shortstop in Betts’ place for the two games at the Tokyo Dome.

Golf – McIlroy and Spaun tie at The Players Championship to set up Monday playoff
Rory McIlroy and J.J. Spaun are headed for a three-hole playoff to decide The Players Championship. But it won’t happen until Monday. A four-hour rain delay in the final round made it fortunate the final round even finished. McIlroy had a three-shot lead at one point on the back nine and looked to be cruising toward another Players Championship title. He played the final six holes in 1 over and Spaun hit some marvelous shots to catch him. McIlroy shot a 68 to overcome a four-shot deficit. Spaun had a 72. At stake Monday is a $4.5 million prize.
