The latest crop production report from the USDA shows Michigan farmers had a busy year.
In the 2023-24 report, Michigan farms were well represented in the nation. The state grows more squash, asparagus, and tart cherries than any other state in all. Theresa Sison, Michigan Farm Bureau industry relations specialist, says part of it is our climate. The other part is the farmers.
“We have some of the best growers in the country,” Sison said. “They specialize in growing fruits and vegetables. They take a lot of pride in growing fruits and vegetables, and they’re very passionate about it. And I think that’s another part of what makes the industry so strong in our state is because we have so many wonderful farmers behind all of these different crops.”
Michigan is in the top 10 when it comes to 27 different crop categories.
