A Traverse City man is facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer, and reckless driving after an incident in South Haven on Thursday.

The situation began around 10:22 a.m. when the South Haven Police Department received a report of a stolen 2012 GMC Acadia near 1200 Phoenix Street. Officers quickly located the vehicle at the BP gas station and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to comply, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

During the chase, the suspect intentionally rammed a patrol car in an attempt to evade capture, causing damage to the vehicle. As the pursuit continued, assisting agencies deployed a tire deflation device at the intersection of County Road 338 and 62nd Street. This caused the suspect to lose control of the Acadia and crash.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The stolen vehicle was recovered and is currently being processed, while the suspect was taken into custody.
