A feature of the first Trump administration in St. Joseph has returned for the second.
Demonstrators gathered Tuesday in front of the Berrien County Administration Building to express their opposition to Trump policies, something they also did each Tuesday during Trump’s first term. The group is grass roots with some representation from the Berrien County Democratic Party, but many on hand were just there to express concerns. Carol Drake was among them.
“We’re scared for our kids, we’re scared for this country,” Drake said. “It has to do with everything. The Social Security, our rights, what’s going on with this deporting people and not having any due process. Where we’re heading is a very, very scary place.”
Demonstrators told us they plan to do this every Tuesday during Trump’s second term.
There will be another, larger demonstration in downtown St. Joseph this Saturday. It’s expected to be similar to the previous Saturday protest that attracted an estimated 1,000 people. About 70 people were present Tuesday, waving signs and cheering on honks from passing cars.
