A weekly newspaper in Dover, Tennessee is reporting that South Haven’s new police chief is also still serving as the police chief in Dover.
Chief Dennis Honholt was sworn in as South Haven’s new police chief on April 1, but in a lengthy story in the Stewart County Standard, Dover city officials claim Honholt is still on their payroll as chief.
Dover City Administrator Charles Parks, told the paper that Honholt is still the police chief and was expected back in the office this week.
“Yeah, he’s still our police chief. You can put that in your story. He’ll be back here this week. He’s not a police chief (in South Haven).” – Dover City Administrator Parks
The Standard reported they spoke with Honholt about the situation and the chief wouldn’t confirm or deny which role (or roles) he was currently holding.
“I’m looking at some things, but as of right now, I don’t want to make any comments,” Honholt reportedly told the newspaper.
After several attempts to clarify whether he was holding two jobs as police chief, Honholt reportedly said he wanted to talk about the situation on his own timeline.
“Well, I don’t have to explain anything and I’m not going to. I’ve already said I’m going to make a statement. It’s not that it’s any kind of big issue.” – South Haven Police Chief Honholt
WSJM has made several attempts to reach Honholt and other South Haven city officials for comment but so far there has been no response. WSJM will continue to update this story.
